The VW Golf is an iconic name with decades of legacy attached to it. The German conglomerate has finally lifted the covers off the new 2020 VW Golf, the eighth generation of the hatchback.
The basic design of the 2020 Golf looks similar to that of the outgoing model but the design has evolved, although it is starting to lose its famously clean styling. The drag coefficient of the new Golf is lower than ever, at 0.275. The car has grown as well, in length and breadth.
Inside the Golf, it’s all tech that stands out. The instrument cluster is a large 10.25-inch unit along with a 8.25-inch infotainment system. The infotainment system can be upgraded to a 10-inch setup if needed. Owners with Samsung phones can now unlock the car by waving your phones near the door. Placing the phone in the centre console starts the engine as well.
The 2020 Golf scores a massive overkill in the powertrain department. There are 11 choices to pick from, including five hybrid powertrains. Three of them are 48-volt mild-hybrid systems with outputs of 109 hp, 129 hp, and 148 hp. There are two proper plug-in-hybrids as well which churns out 201 hp and 241 hp.
The petrol-powered engines include a 1.0-litre three-cylinder engine and a 1.5-litre four-cylinder unit, the former of which comes in two states of tune, 89 hp, and 109 hp. The 1.5-litre petrol engine churns out two different outputs, 114 hp, and 148 hp. If an oil-burner is what you seek, a 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine should be your fix. It too gets two different states of tune, at 114 hp and 148 hp.
